Asia has the most capital-city traps of any continent: relocated capitals, split capitals, renamed capitals and four "-stans" whose capitals blur together. Deck ZN3976, "Capitals: Asia" (48 cards) covers every UN member state in Asia, including transcontinental Russia, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Cyprus. The cards are clean country → capital pairs, so the real work is knowing where your instinct will lie to you.

The trick questions
These are the cards you will miss, because the biggest city is not the capital or the answer has a footnote:
- Biggest city ≠ capital: Turkey is Ankara (not Istanbul), Pakistan is Islamabad (not Karachi), Vietnam is Hanoi (not Ho Chi Minh City), the UAE is Abu Dhabi (not Dubai), China is Beijing (not Shanghai).
- Moved capitals: Myanmar moved from Yangon to Nay Pyi Taw in 2005-06; Kazakhstan moved from Almaty to Astana in 1997, renamed it Nur-Sultan in 2019 and back to Astana in 2022. Older quizzes may still say Nur-Sultan.
- Split capitals: Sri Lanka's official capital is Kotte, but Colombo is the commercial capital; Malaysia's capital is Kuala Lumpur, while the government sits in Putrajaya.
- Footnotes worth knowing: Indonesia is building Nusantara on Borneo, but Jakarta stays the legal capital until a presidential decree makes the move official. Israel names Jerusalem as its capital, but most embassies remain in Tel Aviv. Yemen's government has worked from Aden since Sana'a was taken by the Houthis in 2014.
Two study tips for this deck
1. Drill the Central Asian five as one group. Astana (Kazakhstan), Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan), Dushanbe (Tajikistan), Ashgabat (Turkmenistan), Tashkent (Uzbekistan). Learners mix them up because they learn them in alphabetical order, scattered among other cards. Make one extra card, "the five -stan capitals, north to south", and the confusion goes away. Anchor each one to a neighbour: Tashkent and Bishkek sit near the Fergana Valley, Dushanbe is the southern outlier next to Afghanistan, Ashgabat lies on the Iranian border.
2. Reverse the long names. Bandar Seri Begawan, Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte and Ulaanbaatar are easy to recognise and hard to produce. Study them capital → country first, then flip the deck so you have to spell them. Typing them in Flip It's write mode is the best test.
Gaps to fill yourself
The deck sticks to UN members, so Taipei (Taiwan) and Ramallah / East Jerusalem (Palestine) are missing. Add them as two cards if your quiz or exam includes them.
