Most people googling "what is an MBA" get a brochure. What you actually need before applying, or before an admissions interview, is the vocabulary: accreditation bodies, program formats, the core-vs-elective split, and how the capstone and dissertation work. The Flip It deck MBA Essentials (deck code AJ2643, 104 cards) compresses all of that into flashcards you can finish in a few evenings.

Everything the deck enumerates

  • Program formats: full-time two-year, accelerated (summer break removed, 7-10 days off), part-time, modular, evening or second-shift, executive (EMBA), full-time executive one-year, blended learning, dual degree (MBA + MS, MA, MEng, JD), 5-year BBA/MBA, Mini-MBA.
  • Admissions: GMAT, GRE, undergraduate GPA, work experience (5+ years at top-tier programs), essays, recommendations, HND/HNC as UK entry routes, admissions consultants and why committees dislike them.
  • Curriculum: core analytical courses (accounting, managerial economics, organizational behavior, quantitative analysis); core functional courses; ethics, CSR and corporate governance; electives such as entrepreneurship, international business, MIS, business law and market research; strategy capstone; research methodology; dissertation or major project; business simulation; comprehensive exit exam.
  • Accreditation and honor societies: AACSB, AMBA, EQUIS, CAHME (healthcare management), FIBAA, the Austrian Accreditation Council, CPC COMP Exam, Delta Mu Delta, Financial Management Association, T10.
  • Global landscape: Indian Institutes of Management, Singapore Management University and NUS, Korea's BK21 project, Germany's Diplom-Kaufmann and the Bologna process, Finland's Tradenomi (YAMK), why Swiss programs teach in English, the spread of the MBA from the US to Canada (1950), Asia (1953) and Europe (1957).
  • Pedagogy: case method with incomplete information, team projects, syndicates, action learning, field immersion with real clients, company visits and CEO guest lectures.

Tips for retaining this deck

Group the acronyms by what they accredit. AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS accredit schools and programs broadly; CAHME is only for healthcare management; FIBAA is the German workhorse. When a card asks "who accredits X", first decide the geography or specialty, then the acronym. Mixing these up is the most common error in this deck.

Learn the curriculum as a timeline. Year one: core analytical and functional courses, then an internship. Year two: electives towards a specialization, the strategy capstone (formulation, then execution), research methodology, dissertation or major project, exit exam. Cards 12-33 and 77-96 all fit somewhere on that line, so reciting the sequence gives you the context for each answer.

Suggested pace

Do 35 cards a day for three days, then a full mixed review on day four. Flip It reschedules the accreditation and honor-society cards more often, since those are the ones that take longest to stick.
