Most top 100 words decks are frequency dumps scraped from subtitles: all function words, no nouns you can use. Deck XC8253 — Hindi Vocabulary: Top 100 Words (99 cards) is not one of them. It is a hand-built core, organised in blocks, with Devanagari and Roman transliteration on every back. That makes it one of the better entry points in the Hindi library — provided you patch three things before your first review.

Card 18 is corrupted — delete it

Card 18 reads the → न/a (no direct article). The back was meant to say n/a; a find-and-replace turned the Latin n into the Devanagari letter न (na). You will lose a minute trying to read a word that does not exist. Delete it and replace it with the fact it was reaching for: Hindi has no definite article, and एक (ek) does double duty as a/an and one — compare card 19 with card 72.

Five backs answer two fronts each

वह covers he, she and that (cards 3, 4, 8). कल is both tomorrow and yesterday (98, 99). खाना is food and to eat (45, 86). नहीं is no and not (28, 30). एक is a/an and one. Flip any of these Hindi → English and there is no single right answer.

Tip: these are not deck bugs, they are Hindi. Merge each collision into one card that names the ambiguity and what resolves it. वह carries no gender because gender sits on the verb (वह जाता है = he goes, वह जाती है = she goes). कल means the day adjacent to today; the verb tense tells you which side. सोना, while you are at it, is also gold.

The two things the deck never says

Gender. Not one noun carries it. किताब, चीज़, जगह, आँख, औरत, माता, बहन and ज़िंदगी are feminine; घर, आदमी, बच्चा, दिल, हाथ, सिर, नाम, पानी, दिन, साल, काम and पैसा are masculine. Without gender the eight -आ adjectives in the deck are unusable, because they agree: अच्छा लड़का, अच्छी लड़की, अच्छे लड़के. Write one agreement card and अच्छा, बुरा, बड़ा, छोटा, नया, पुराना, पहला turn into 21 usable forms.

Conjugation. All 20 verbs sit in the -ना infinitive. Add the present habitual (stem + ता/ती/ते + है/हैं) and the ने ergative for past transitives (मैंने किताब पढ़ी) — the one rule that catches every English speaker.

Tip: ignore the romanisation after week one. It marks the same nasal four different ways (kahān, haiṁ, kyōṁ, hān), and it hides the nukta contrasts the deck actually uses — ज़ in ज़िंदगी, ख़ in आख़िरी, ड़ in दौड़ना. Read the Devanagari; the Roman is a crutch, not a system.
