Study tips specific to this deck
Learn the suffixes, not 60 separate dishes. Most dish names are built from a handful of endings: -찌개 (stew), -탕 / -국 (soup), -볶음 (stir-fried, from 볶다), -구이 (grilled, from 굽다), -찜 (steamed or braised, from 찌다), -전 (pancake), -죽 (porridge), -밥 (rice). Make one card per suffix and you will decode menu items the deck never shows you.
Clean up a few cards as you go:
- Card 190 glosses 잘 먹겠습니다 as "Enjoy your meal". It is what you say before eating ("I will eat well"); hosts say 맛있게 드세요.
- Cards 21 and 25 (자장면 / 짜장면) are both standard spellings since 2011: merge them. Cards 7 and 53 repeat samgyeopsal.
- 호박 (card 101, "zucchini") is pumpkin or squash generally, as in 호박죽 (card 75); zucchini is 애호박.
- Card 18 should read 만둣국, and card 159 is romanized seokda.
- 쓰다 (bitter) also means "to write" and "to use"; the taste cards are dictionary forms, so add the spoken ones you will actually hear: 짜요, 달아요, 매워요.
