The Arabic Vocabulary A2 — Everyday deck (code NF2281, 300 cards) on Flip It is a frequency list: the words that actually turn up most often in spoken Arabic and subtitles, glossed in English, back in Arabic script. That makes it fast — and it means the deck behaves differently from a textbook chapter. Here is how to study it, and the four cards to repair before you start.

What the 300 cards actually cover
Connectors and subordinators carry the deck: لكي (in order to)، بينما (while)، كذلك (likewise)، لذا (therefore)، حتى (until)، كما (just as)، مما (than what)، بما (including)، غير (other than)، طوال (throughout)، دون (without)، بشأن (regarding).
Verbs in conjugated form, never as dictionary entries: أذهب / تذهب / نذهب (I, you, we go)، أحتاج (I need)، أردت (I wanted)، سمعت (I heard)، رأيت (I saw)، يقول (he says)، قال (he said)، تقول (you say)، أحاول (I try)، ستكون (you will be)، سأكون (I will be)، كانوا (they were).
Prepositions welded to pronouns — the biggest single group: إلي، منها، بنا، عنك، معها، لهم، منهم، إليك، عليك، عليه، علينا، عليها، بها، فيها، منه، عنه، له.
Everyday nouns: المدينة (city)، الغرفة (room)، الباب (door)، السيارة (car)، المنزل (home)، الطريق (road)، المال (money)، الناس (people)، ساعة (hour)، دقيقة (minute)، عيد (holiday).
Note what is not here despite the word "Everyday": no food, no days of the week, no numbers past ثلاثة, no directions, no shopping. The corpus is film and TV, so you get الشرطة (police)، النار (fire)، قتل (killing)، مات (died)، اللعنة (damn) instead.
Four backs to fix before card 1
- الـ is glossed "the (informal)" — it is simply the definite article of Modern Standard Arabic, nothing informal about it.
- هل is glossed "is/are" — it is the yes/no question particle (hal), not a copula. Arabic has no present-tense "is".
- لقد is glossed "have/has" — it is an emphasis particle before a past verb (qad), closer to "indeed" or "already".
- أن is labelled "that (demonstrative)" — it is a conjunction. And the deck stores أن، ان، إن and أنّ as four separate cards for three different words: أنْ (so that, + subjunctive), أنَّ (that, + noun clause), إنَّ (indeed, sentence-initial). Merge them with the vowel marks visible.
Three cards are pure corpus debris and should be deleted outright: card 145 (ـ, a tatweel stroke glossed "dash/hyphen"), card 174 (ط) and card 199 (ظ), both lone letters glossed "period marker".
Two habits that halve the workload
Suspend the last sixty cards on day one. All 31 exact duplicate backs in this deck sit in cards 240–300: الأشياء، لكي، شيئا، بالفعل، فضلك، عزيزتي، النار، الرجال، الباب، السيارة and twenty more simply repeat their earlier twin with a reworded English gloss. Ignore hamza spelling and the deck holds 251 distinct words, not 300. Study 1–239 first, then unsuspend the tail and keep only what is genuinely new.
Refuse spelling-variant pairs. الذي / الذى، انها / إنها، حقا / حقاً، اجل / أجل، الان / الآن، اذا / إذاً are the same word typed with and without its hamza. Keep the correctly spelled version and delete the other, or you will train yourself to accept both.
