Deck RS2358 — Git : commandes et workflows is the French edition of Flip It's 68-card Git deck: the fronts stay in English (git rebase, HEAD, Fast-forward merge), the backs are written in French. That asymmetry is the whole point. You revise the tool and absorb the French developer vocabulary you will actually meet in a Paris codebase, a French README or a git course, in one pass.

What the cards look like

The 68 cards in one breath

Plumbing and porcelain: init, clone, add, commit -m, status, push, pull, fetch, merge, branch, checkout -b, switch, restore, log, diff, reset --hard, revert, stash pop, remote add origin, tag, rebase, cherry-pick, rm, mv, blame, bisect, grep, gc, fsck, config, archive, clean, describe, reflog. Internals: blob, tree object, tag object, packfile, delta compression, SHA-1, staging area, .gitignore, Git LFS, detached HEAD. Collaboration: pull request, merge conflict, three-way merge, recursive, octopus, fast-forward, Git-flow, GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, JGit, libgit2.

The French layer worth stealing

The backs give you the real translations, not approximations: dépôt (repository), indexer / désindexer (to stage / unstage), zone de staging — also index or cache in card 54, valider (to commit), fusion and fusionner (merge), réécrire l'historique (rewrite history), mettre de côté (stash), extrait (checked out), répertoire de travail (working directory), branche courante (current branch). Note that French developers keep the English nouns — commit, push, merge, stash — while conjugating the verbs in French. The deck mirrors that habit faithfully.

Two fixes before your first review

Card 51 is wrong. Five object types in Git's object store answers "Blob, tree, commit, tag et packfile". Git has four object types; a packfile is a storage and transport container that holds those objects, not a fifth type. Rewrite the back as quatre types : blob, tree, commit, tag and keep the packfile as its own card (52 already covers it).

Card 46 is dated. The recursive strategy stopped being Git's default merge strategy in version 2.34 (2021), which switched to ort. Behaviour is nearly identical, but an interviewer asking about the default expects ort. Add the date to the back rather than deleting the card.

Also study cards 14–15 (checkout) alongside 66–67 (switch / restore) as one block: the deck presents them far apart, yet the modern pair exists precisely to split the two jobs checkout used to mix.

Study order

Pass one: the 34 command cards, until every git x fires in under two seconds. Pass two: internals and merge strategies, where the French phrasing gets dense. Pass three: reverse the cards — read the French back, produce the command. That direction proves you own both the tool and the vocabulary.
