Elaboration likelihood model, cognitive dissonance, attribution, schemas: 25 real flashcards from Flip It deck JR9291 to lock in social psychology.
Social psychology is deceptively hard to revise. The vocabulary sounds like everyday English — influence, conformity, compliance, obedience — but each word has a narrow technical meaning, and exams are built precisely on the gap between the two. The Social Psychology: Influence, Conformity & Group Dynamics deck (code OA7906, 81 cards) on Flip It covers the classic experiments, the group concepts and the methodology critiques in one pass.

Start with the experiments, not the definitions
Almost every term in this field is anchored to a study. Learn the study first and the definition follows for free.
| Card front | Card back |
|---|---|
| Asch conformity experiments | Line-length estimation study; 75% of participants conformed at least once |
| How did mistake rates change with group size in Asch? | 3 incorrect confederates: 31.8%; two: 13.6%; one: only 3.6% |
| Milgram experiment | Ordinary citizens followed an authority figure even while believing they caused suffering |
| Stanford prison experiment | Zimbardo: student guards turned brutal, prisoners compliant — power of situation and role |
| What did the 2002 BBC prison study find? | Drastically different conclusions; self-selection and personality shaped reactions |
| Bobo doll experiment | Bandura: aggression is learned by imitation |
| Norman Triplett's 1898 experiment | First published study in social psychology, on social facilitation |
| Bystander effect | People are less likely to help a victim when others are present |
| Deindividuation | Reduced self-awareness from anonymity — crowds, disguises, uniforms, alcohol, darkness, online anonymity |
| Social exchange theory | Relationships as rational cost-benefit analysis; people leave when costs outweigh benefits |
What the 81 cards actually cover
You will end up fluent in: informational and normative social influence, compliance, obedience, foot-in-the-door, door-in-the-face, bait and switch, social facilitation, social groups versus social aggregates, norms, roles, relations, in-group and out-group, social identity, intergroup discrimination, prejudice, discrimination, social stigma, interpersonal attraction, similarity, Sternberg's triangular theory of love, consummate love, companionate versus passionate love, crowd psychology, group decision making, scripts, situationism, attribution, self-concept, plus the research-methods half of the deck — informed consent, debriefing, confederates, deception, institutional review boards, internal versus external validity, random sampling, statistical significance, false positives, questionable research practices, the Diederik Stapel fraud case, social priming, the replication crisis and the WEIRD problem.
Two tricks that make it stick
Separate the confusable pairs with a one-line question. Informational versus normative influence: ask was I trying to be right, or trying to be liked? Foot-in-the-door versus door-in-the-face: ask did the small request come first or second? Two of the three cards students lose marks on in this deck are these pairs; drilling them side by side kills the ambiguity in a single session.
Memorise the numbers separately. Asch's 75%, the 31.8 / 13.6 / 3.6 gradient, Floyd Allport's 1924 textbook, Triplett in 1898, the 70% of 1986 experiments run on North American undergraduates — these are the cheapest exam points available and the easiest facts to lose. Run them as a numbers-only pass at the end of each review.
