The deck SAT Math: Algebra & Problem Solving (code IO2338) on Flip It contains 97 flashcards, and its real subject is broader than its name suggests: it drills how the digital SAT actually works — module structure, timing, adaptive logic, scoring bands, percentiles and the research behind the test. That knowledge is worth points. Students lose marks to the format, not just to the algebra.

What the 97 cards cover

You'll memorize: the two-section structure (Reading and Writing, Math), the 200–800 per-section band, the 400–1600 composite, the 2 h 14 min running time, the ten-minute break, Bluebook, adaptive Module 2, SPR questions, the Desmos calculator, experimental questions, equating, distractors, norm-referenced scoring, fee waivers, the PSAT/NMSQT, score verification, and the 50 % extra time accommodation.

QuestionAnswer
What are the two main sections of the current SAT?Reading and Writing, and Math
What is the total score range?400 to 1600 (sum of the two section scores)
How long does the SAT take?2 hours 14 minutes, plus a 10-minute break
Is the digital SAT adaptive?Yes — Module 2 difficulty depends on your Module 1 performance
How many Math questions are there?22 per module, 44 total, in 35-minute modules
What math topics appear?Algebra (13–15 q), advanced math (13–15 q), problem solving and data analysis (5–7 q), geometry and trigonometry (5–7 q)
What are SPR questions?Student-produced responses — about 25 % of Math, you type a numerical answer
Is there a penalty for guessing? No — only correct answers count
What score sits at the 90th user percentile (2019)?1350 (1200 at the 75th, about 1050 at the 50th)
What are the 2025 section averages?521 Reading and Writing, 508 Math

Two tactics the cards hand you

Never leave a blank. There is no negative marking, and harder questions are worth more. Since strong Module 1 performance routes you into the difficult Module 2 — where the highest-value items live — guessing on every unanswered item is strictly free expected value.

Budget by module, not by test. Math gives you 35 minutes for 22 questions: 95 seconds each. Reading and Writing gives 32 minutes for 27 questions: 71 seconds each, on passages of only 25–150 words. Rehearse those two clocks separately; a single "SAT pace" is the wrong mental model for an adaptive, modular exam.

How to study this deck

Split the 97 cards into three runs: mechanics (sections, modules, timing, Bluebook, calculator), scoring (bands, percentiles, equating, ACT concordance), and context (history since 1926, test-optional policies, predictive-validity research). Mechanics first — it is the part that changes how you sit the exam. The numeric cards (1350, 1200, 1050, 521, 508, 36 = 1570–1600 on the ACT) reward spaced repetition; Flip It's review scheduling will resurface them until the figures stick.
