Anyone can name Everest. The real problem is keeping the other 97 summits straight without your reviews turning into a blur of near-identical numbers. The Highest Mountains deck (code WR8982) on Flip It ranks the giants of Asia from 8,849 metres down to 7,362, then closes with a block of concepts. Here is how to work it.

Three blocks, three different jobs
Cards 1 to 14 are the eight-thousanders, in strict order of height. Cards 15 to 76 are a ranked run of 7,000-metre peaks, from Gyachung Kang (7,952 m) to Kirat Chuli (7,362 m). The last twenty-odd cards are thematic: topographic prominence, the Mahalangur Himal, the Baltoro Muztagh, the Gasherbrum group, the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna massifs, the Siachen dispute, the Tian Shan, the Hindu Kush, the Pamirs, and the record-holders that are not Everest.
Eight cards from the deck
| Front | Back |
|---|---|
| Mount Everest | The world's highest mountain at 8,849 meters (29,032 ft), in the Himalayas on the Nepal-China border, first climbed in 1953 |
| K2 | The second highest at 8,611 meters (28,251 ft), in the Karakoram on the Pakistan-China border, first climbed in 1954 |
| Annapurna I | The tenth highest at 8,091 meters (26,545 ft), in Nepal's Himalayas, first 8000m peak climbed (1950) |
| Shishapangma | Fourteenth highest at 8,027 meters (26,335 ft), entirely in China (Tibet), last 8000m peak to be climbed (1964) |
| the highest unclimbed mountain | Gangkhar Puensum at 7,570 meters in Bhutan, where mountaineering has been banned since 1994 for religious reasons |
| What mountain has the greatest vertical rise from ocean floor? | Mauna Kea in Hawaii rises about 10,203 meters (33,474 ft) from the Pacific Ocean floor, though only 4,207 m above sea level |
| Mount Chimborazo's special distinction | In Ecuador, its summit is the farthest point from Earth's center (6,384 km) due to the equatorial bulge |
| Which countries have the most peaks over 7,200 meters? | China (50), Pakistan (42), Nepal (34), India (27), Bhutan (5) |
You will also cover Kangchenjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Dhaulagiri I, Manaslu, Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum I and II, Broad Peak, Nuptse, Nanda Devi, Kamet, Rakaposhi, Masherbrum, Namcha Barwa, Tirich Mir, Noshaq, Muztagh Ata, Ismoil Somoni Peak, Jengish Chokusu and Denali.
Do not try to rote-learn the middle sixty
The 7,000-metre cards share one template: "A peak at X meters in Pakistan's Karakoram range, first climbed in 19YY." Recalled cold, they are indistinguishable, and you will burn weeks failing them. Convert that block into a sorting exercise instead: for each name, answer only two things — which range (Karakoram, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Kangchenjunga, Saltoro-Siachen, Hindu Kush, Pamir, Tian Shan) and which country. Keep exact metres only for the fourteen eight-thousanders, where the numbers actually get asked.
Suspend the duplicates first
Roughly eight facts appear twice, once as a named peak and once as a thematic card: Tirich Mir, Shishapangma, Gangkhar Puensum, Nanga Parbat, Annapurna I and the first 8000er, Ismoil Somoni Peak, Jengish Chokusu, plus the near-identical pair "How many mountains exceed 8,000 meters?" and "What are the eight-thousanders?". Keep the thematic version, suspend the other, and your retention stats stop being inflated.
One last thing worth a card of your own: the deck quietly holds three different answers to "the highest mountain" — Everest above sea level, Mauna Kea from base to summit, Chimborazo from the Earth's centre. That distinction is the single most examined fact in the whole deck.
