Most A1 lists start with ciao, grazie and the colours. The Italian Vocabulary A1 — Essentials deck on Flip It (deck code AF1303, 260 cards) starts with e, non, che, di. It is a frequency list built from spoken dialogue, so its first cards are the function words that hold every Italian sentence together. That is a strength, as long as you know how the file is built.

How the deck is put together

  • Cards 1-100 are the true core: articles, prepositions, pronouns and the most common verb forms.
  • Cards 101-155 replay cards 1-100 with shorter prompts (che, un, mi, sono, l', lo, da, come…). Suspend them, or use them as a quick review round.
  • Cards 156-260 are the only new material: casa, dove, sempre, tempo, vita, lavoro, giorno, ecco, aspetta, plus the modal verbs.

So you are really learning about 205 words, not 260.

What you'll cover

Everyday words: cosa, casa, tempo, vita, anni, giorno, padre, madre, mamma, amico, uomo, lavoro, sempre, forse, quindi, allora, davvero, meglio, troppo.

Fix these cards as you go

Because the cards come from subtitles, some came out broken. Correct them before they become habits:

  • Missing accents. perche, piu, cosi and gia are written without accents. They should be perché, più, così, già. Cards 79 and 77 already have the right spelling, so suspend the versions without accents.
  • Fragments. c' means nothing by itself. Rewrite it as c'è (there is). ce (card 246) is also c'è, po is po' (un po' = a bit), favore is per favore, dispiace is mi dispiace.
  • Wrong labels. Card 119 calls tu "you (formal)". The formal form is Lei, and voi (card 203) is simply "you, plural". Card 108 mixes up sì (yes) and si (oneself). Write them as two separate cards.
  • Card 222 is a swear word that subtitles love. Keep it or suspend it, as you prefer.

Two tips for this deck

  1. Turn verb scatter into tables. The deck spreads essere, avere, stare, potere, dovere and volere over about 40 cards. Make one card per verb with the full present tense (devo, devi, deve, dobbiamo, dovete, devono) and fill the gaps the deck leaves.
  2. Learn fused prepositions as a grid. Rows: di, a, da, in, su. Columns: il, la, l', i, le. Every del, alla and sulla card then fits one slot instead of being a separate fact.

When this core feels easy, move on to the Italian A2 Everyday deck review. It continues the same frequency list.
