Most Arabic learners stall in the same place. The alphabet is behind you, the A1 and A2 survival phrases are automatic, and then a real conversation happens and half of it is unrecognisable. The words are not exotic — they are forms: the same noun wearing a definite article, the same verb wearing a different person, a particle glued to a preposition.

The Arabic Vocabulary B1 — Expanding deck (code MG8574, 360 cards) on Flip It is built for exactly that gap. It is frequency-ordered and takes words as they actually appear in speech and subtitles, inflections included, rather than as tidy dictionary entries.

What the 360 cards cover

Verbs across persons and tenses, not infinitives: أنظر (I look), تتحدث (you speak), نريد (we want), يذهب (he goes), تفعلين (you do, feminine), سأفعل (I will do), حاولت (I tried), عرفت (I knew), وجدت (I found), فقد (has lost), قام (he stood up), يتم (gets done).

Imperatives and conversational moves: خذ (take), أعطني (give me), انظري (look, feminine), تعالي (come, feminine), مهلاً (hold on), أقصد (I mean), متأكد (sure), فعلاً (actually).

Particles and connectors — the real load-bearing vocabulary: هل and هلا (question and request), ولم and ألم (and did not / didn't), إذن (so, then), وحسب (and only), وقد (and may), بأي (with any), لمدة (for a period of), عدم (lack of), بد (alternative).

Nouns with the definite article attached: المدينة (the city), الأرض (the earth), المشكلة (the problem), الأسبوع (the week), الغرفة (the room), النوم (the sleep), الحرب (the war), الخارج (the outside).

Pronominal suffixes: عليهم (on them), منا (from us), لهم (for them), إليه (to him), كله (all of it), أخبرك (I tell you).

Plus comparatives (الأفضل، الأقل، المزيد), gender pairs (طويل / طويلة، صغير / الصغيرة), numbers, time words (غداً، لاحقاً، مجدداً), and transliterated names (جون، مايكل، نيويورك).

Two habits that make this deck pay off

Peel the prefixes before you memorize. A large share of these cards are a word you already know plus a glued particle: الطريقة is طريقة with ال, للمنزل is ل + ال + منزل, وانا is و + انا. Learn the bare stem once, then treat the prefixed card as a two-second decoding drill instead of a new item. Your review load drops by a third.

Handle the cards labeled (variant) as recognition only. اين for أين, الا for إلا, اننا for أننا, انهم for إنهم — these are real spellings from untypeset Arabic, with hamza and diacritics dropped. Recognize them instantly when reading; always write the fully spelled form. Confusing the two is how learners end up with unreliable spelling.

One more grouping that saves time: pull the same-root verbs into a single session — أخبرني، أخبرك، أخبرتك together, then ذهبت، ذهب، يذهب. The pattern does the memorising for you.

For Arabic used in a religious register, pair this with the Islam beliefs and Qur'an flashcards.
