Deck AO8887 is called GMAT Verbal & Integrated Reasoning, and its own cards contradict that title: card 11 says Integrated Reasoning was replaced by Data Insights in 2023, and card 80 adds that the Focus Edition deleted the Analytical Writing Assessment, sentence correction and geometry too. These 97 cards are an exam-mechanics deck plus a glossary — very good at the first job. Here is how to study it without memorising a test that no longer exists.

The glossary half

Cards 28-76 and 82-87 define the vocabulary rather than test it: premise, conclusion, assumption, inference, counterargument, logical fallacy, deductive and inductive reasoning, main idea, supporting detail, tone, implication, context, paraphrasing, synthesis, bias, evidence, hypothesis, causation versus correlation, variable, quantitative versus qualitative data, data set, outlier, trend, mean, median, mode, range, percentage, ratio, proportion, probability, sample versus population, validity, reliability, bar chart, line graph, pie chart, scatter plot, computer-adaptive testing and data literacy. Dictionary-level: run it once at speed, then move to real passages.

Tip 1: suspend the nine legacy cards on day one

Cards 19-22 (Integrated Reasoning: 12 questions, 1-8 score, scored separately) and cards 23-27 (AWA: 30 minutes, 0-6 in half points, two raters, third reader past a one-point gap) describe removed sections. Keep exactly one — Data Insights replaced Integrated Reasoning in 2023 — and suspend the other eight.

Tip 2: rewrite the conclusion and assumption pair, they contradict each other

The deck defines a conclusion as a statement that follows logically from premises, then defines an assumption as an unstated premise necessary for the argument to be valid. Both cannot be true: if the conclusion already followed logically, no assumption would ever be missing. On GMAT critical reasoning the conclusion is just the claim the author wants you to accept, and the gap between premises and conclusion is exactly where assumption, weaken, strengthen and flaw questions live. Rewrite both backs before your first review.

Two numbers are also missing from an otherwise complete format deck: the total score scale, 205 to 805, and the roughly 2 hours 15 minutes of total testing time. Add them yourself — schools ask for the first one.
