The deck is called AWS Solutions Architect (code BV7736, 140 cards), but you'll learn more from it once you see what's actually inside. Most of the cards come from the corporate history of Amazon Web Services: CEOs, revenue, outages, acquisitions and sustainability pledges. Only about 30 of them deal with what the SAA-C03 exam tests, which is designing secure, resilient, high-performing and cost-optimised architectures. Here's how to separate the exam material from the trivia.

The exam-relevant cards
| Front | Back |
|---|---|
| What is an Availability Zone? | One or more discrete data centres with redundant power, networking and connectivity within a region |
| Do Availability Zones automatically provide redundancy? | No, they must be configured to replicate across zones |
| What are opt-in regions? | Regions introduced after March 20, 2019 that must be explicitly enabled |
| Do IAM resources propagate to disabled opt-in regions? | No, only to enabled regions |
| What are the two block-storage options? | EC2 Instance Store and EBS |
| Who is responsible for account management and patching? | The customer |
| What are inter-AZ data transfer charges? | Charges for data moved between AZs in the same region |
| What is AWS PrivateLink? | Private connectivity between VPCs and AWS services |
What the deck covers
Core services: EC2, S3, EBS, EFS, Lambda, DynamoDB, RDS, SimpleDB, CloudFront, CloudWatch, Elastic Beanstalk, Elastic Load Balancing, ALB, VPC Peering, Transit Gateway, PrivateLink, autoscaling, redundancy, the shared responsibility model, regions, AZs, edge locations, and inter-AZ and inter-region transfer costs. The history and trivia cards cover SQS in 2004, S3 and EC2 in 2006, re:Invent, the outages of 2011, 2012, 2017, 2020 and October 2025, Annapurna Labs, Bedrock, Nova, Project Rainier, Anthropic, Project Nimbus and AWS re/Start.
How to study it
Tag every card by exam domain. SAA-C03 has 65 questions in 130 minutes and a passing score of 720/1000. It is split into four domains: Secure (30%), Resilient (26%), High-Performing (24%) and Cost-Optimized (20%). Cards 42–47, 70–71, 93–95, 117 and 132–138 map onto those domains. Revenue figures, market share (cards 8–10 and 55), the history of the founding team and the outage dates won't come up on the exam, so put them in a separate "AWS culture" filter.
Write the architecture cards the deck leaves out. There's no IAM policy logic, no security groups vs NACLs (stateful vs stateless), no public and private subnets with a NAT gateway, and no S3 storage classes or lifecycle rules. It also skips SQS vs SNS decoupling, Route 53 routing policies, Multi-AZ vs read replicas in RDS, and KMS encryption. That's around 15 cards to write yourself, and they are the core of the exam's scenario questions.
Turn the trivia into scenarios. For example, card 46 says AZs don't replicate on their own, and card 134 says traffic between AZs is billed. Together they give you a classic question: "Multi-AZ for resilience, but watch the cross-AZ data charges."
Smaller fixes: card 16 still lists SOAP, which is now legacy and was dropped for S3 over HTTP. Card 115 calls RAID a "protocol", but it is a storage technique.
Overlap with the Cloud Practitioner deck
36 fronts in this deck are word-for-word identical to AWS Cloud Practitioner (BP7875). If you've already studied that deck, suspend the duplicates and focus on the networking cards (VPC Peering, Transit Gateway, PrivateLink, ALB).
