Spanish has two verbs for "to be", and no rule of thumb ("permanent vs temporary") survives contact with real sentences: está muerto uses estar, es joven uses ser. Deck NF8415, "Spanish Ser, Estar & Irregular Verbs" (122 cards) attacks the problem the right way, with 60 contrast sentences built in minimal pairs. Here is how to get the most out of it, and how to fill the gap in its second half.

What the deck actually contains
- Cards 1-12: full present-tense paradigms of ser (soy, eres, es, somos, sois, son) and estar (estoy, estás, está, estamos, estáis, están).
- Cards 13-72: English sentence → Spanish answer, each tagged with the reason (origin, location, emotion, material…).
- Cards 73-122: 50 high-frequency verbs, infinitive → meaning only.
Minimal pairs worth drilling

Study tips specific to this deck
1. Swap "permanent/temporary" for DOCTOR and PLACE. Ser = Description, Occupation, Characteristic, Time, Origin, Relationship. Estar = Position, Location, Action, Condition, Emotion. That explains the deck's "surprises": death and marriage are conditions (estar), while an event's location is the one exception — "La fiesta está en mi casa" in the deck is fine colloquially, but textbooks prefer "La fiesta es en mi casa" because events take place (ser). Add that note to card 18.
2. Review the pairs together. Cards 15/16, 32/33, 26/27, 34/35, 36/37, 38/39 and 64-69 are built as couples — tag them so they come up back to back. The meaning shift (listo = clever/ready, rico = rich/tasty, verde = green/unripe) is what sticks.
The "irregular verbs" half needs work
Cards 73-122 list tener, hacer, ir, poder, decir, poner, venir, salir, traer, conocer, pensar, dormir, pedir, seguir, volver, oír, caer, construir, conducir, caber, elegir, reír… but never show a single irregular form — only the English meaning. Recognizing poner won't help you produce pongo or puse. Write the missing cards by pattern, one card per group:
- Yo-go: tengo, hago, pongo, salgo, traigo, vengo, digo, caigo, oigo
- -zco: conozco, conduzco, produzco, traduzco
- Stem change: pienso (e→ie), duermo/vuelvo (o→ue), pido/repito/sigo (e→i), juego (u→ue)
- -uir → y: construyo, incluyo, huyo
- Total oddballs: voy, sé, quepo, doy
Also note: ser and estar are "to be", not "to be (permanent)" — rewrite cards 73-74 with DOCTOR/PLACE.
