German nouns come with three genders, four cases and a dozen ways to form a plural, and the article tells you all of it at once. Flip It deck KM1058 "German Articles, Genders & Prepositions" drills exactly that in 195 cards: the full der/die/das and ein/eine tables, about 90 everyday nouns with their articles and plurals, the gender-by-suffix rules, and every preposition sorted by case.

Study plan
- Cards 1-32 as a grid, not 32 facts. Write the 4×4 der-table once: only
den(acc. masc. and dat. pl.),demanddesare new forms. Learn the endings (-r, -e, -s, -n, -m) andein/keinfollow the same pattern. - Nouns in their clusters. The deck runs article cards and then plurals for each theme (family, body, food, time). Review each pair together so der Vater → die Väter sticks as one unit.
- Suffix rules before nouns. Cards 62-68 settle all the nouns at 69-75 in one go, so learn those rules first.
- Prepositions last, pairing each two-way card at 156-164 with its twin at 180-188.
Fixes and gaps
- Card 160 is half wrong. Über meaning "about a topic" takes the accusative, not the dative: ein Buch über den Krieg. Only "above" with no movement is dative.
keinstops at the nominative. Add keinen, keinem, keiner, keines. They follow theeinrow, plus the plural keine/keinen/keiner.- Hidden weak nouns. der Junge, der Buchstabe and der Student take -(e)n outside the nominative: mit dem Studenten, den Jungen. Add one card for that rule.
- No masculine suffix rules. Add -ling, -ismus and -or (masculine), -um and -ment (neuter), and -ion, -ei and -ik (feminine).
- Dative plural adds -n. Add a card for mit den Kindern.
- Dative-only außer and ab are missing.
The deck works as a fix for our German A1 Essentials guide, whose backs come without articles. Learn the gender here and carry it over.
