If you already know Hallo and Danke but freeze in a meeting in Munich or at a Werkstatt when the mechanic says Zündkerze, your gap is not grammar — it is domain vocabulary. The German Business, Technology & Automotive deck (code CI9175, 480 cards) on Flip It targets exactly that gap: the words you hear in a German office, a car dealership and an IT department, with nothing else in between.

How the 480 cards are organized
The deck runs in three blocks, each English → German, with the article included for nouns in the business block:
- Business & economy (~300 cards) — company, customer, revenue, inventory, shareholder, discount, asset, inflation, pension, trade, brand, incentive, regulation, approval, apprentice, ethics, industry, convention, procedure, resource.
- Automotive (~130 cards) — motor vehicle, clutch, gearbox, rim, windshield, bumper, radiator, spark plug, dashboard, sedan, rear-wheel drive, plug-in hybrid, emissions, crash test, acceleration, repair shop, tow truck, toll road, rush hour, GPS navigation.
- Technology (~50 cards) — laptop, screen, keyboard, touchscreen, operating system, file, folder, password, username, login, download, upload, cloud, backup, Wi-Fi, charger, USB port, processor, RAM, hard drive, SSD, graphics card, printer, headphones, plus the verbs click, type, save, delete, copy, paste, send, receive.
A sample of what you will actually flip through:
| Front | Back |
|---|---|
| company | das Unternehmen |
| revenue | der Umsatz |
| shareholder | der Aktionär |
| industry | die Branche |
| apprentice | der Lehrling |
| fine (penalty) | die Geldstrafe |
| clutch | Kupplung |
| windshield | Windschutzscheibe |
| tow truck | Abschleppwagen |
| hard drive | Festplatte |
Study plan by block
Do not shuffle the whole deck on day one. Work the business block first (it is the biggest and the most reusable), then automotive, then tech — the tech block is the easiest because a third of it is loanwords you already know (Laptop, Smartphone, Cloud, SSD, Bluetooth). With 480 cards at 40 new cards a day you cover the deck in twelve days; the spaced-repetition scheduler then keeps the reviews short.
Tips specific to this deck
1. Treat the article as part of the answer. In the business block, every noun comes with der/die/das. Marking a card as known when you remembered Umsatz but not der Umsatz wastes the card. Say the article aloud each time — you will notice patterns: almost all -ung nouns are die (die Bewertung, die Vorschrift, die Zustimmung, die Vorstellung), -ling nouns are der (der Lehrling).
2. Watch the false friends and the double meanings. Der Preis appears twice in the deck: as price and as prize — one word, two English fronts. Die Leistung is both achievement and output. Das Vermögen (asset, not "wealth" only), der Bestand (inventory), die Rente (pension) and die Branche (industry, not "branch") are the cards most learners miss on the first pass — flag them for extra reviews.
3. Read the compound nouns as parts. The automotive block is a compound-noun goldmine: Windschutzscheibe = wind + protection + pane, Hinterradantrieb = rear + wheel + drive, Abschleppwagen = tow + wagon, Arbeitsspeicher = work + memory (RAM). Decoding the pieces once makes the whole card stick — and lets you guess words that are not in the deck.
